New colours, new fabrics, new decorative styles. Autumn and winter come full of novelties when it comes to interior decoration.
In addition to the aesthetic issue, these new trends make the environments more comfortable and desirable to be, as intended in the coldest seasons.
Keep up with the new trends for this Fall / Winter season and choose the one that best suits your home:
Goodbye White and Pink Millennial. Hello Green, Blue and Black!
Millennial white and pink, which were very strong in previous seasons, now give way to darker and more enveloping colours such as green, blue and black.
The trend dictates that these colours should be adopted in monochromatic settings. Especially in living rooms, these tones are defined as ultra modern. If the finishes of the decorative accessories are matte, perfect! The trick is to play with several points of light, preferably warm, to create cozy and more intimate environments.
Colour Blocking
Another very strong trend is the so-called colour blocking. Here, geometry rules, for the creation of dynamic and energetic environments.
Venture out to play with contrasting colour blocks, either in the painting of the walls or simply in the decorative elements. Bet on dark colours and contrast with lighter ones, like yellow or pink blush.
Open the door of your house to the velvet
Luxurious and extremely comfortable, this is one of the most welcoming fabrics to use in these cold seasons. Combine it with rougher and more natural textures, such as wood, raffia or metals and ceramics. If there is no budget for a sofa or armchair, opt for velvet pillows.
Geometry on the walls
The tiles are back, but with more shapes, more colours and more reliefs! Squares and rectangles are already outdated and the new shapes challenge the geometry in a fun way. This trend is very versatile, because it allows the combination with more modern and minimalist styles or more traditional and elaborate.
Choose minimalism and nature
Japanese minimalism inspired this decoration trend for Autumn / Winter 2017. Well-defined and balanced lines, handicrafts and natural materials create a serene and pleasant environment.
Nature maintains the prominence it has already achieved in previous seasons. That is why indoor plants are to be maintained. In addition to purifying the air, they create a more natural and lively environment. Ponder plants such as orchids, bromeliads or the simple but always beautiful succulents.
Gemstones are also for home this season. But this time, marble gives way to quartz. As in shades, white is also outdated in stones. The highlights are green and pink, in stones such as quartz or agate. Use them as decorative elements on their own or in accessories such as bookends or storage boxes.
The bathroom is the most personal and intimate compartment in the house, so it must be a harmonious, simple and peaceful space. It is in this space that the days begin and end, so the ideal is to transmit balance and serenity, which often contrasts with the rest of the day.
To achieve a relaxing and serene environment in the bathroom, there are a few tips to consider:
Neutral colours
The harmony between the tones of ceramic tableware, coverings and the furniture itself must be preserved. Neutral tones, such as white, grey, ochre and beige, should reign. In a discreet way, colourful notes can appear.
Raw materials
The materials most used in Zen environments are those that are in a natural state or little industrialized: wood or stones. One or more types of materials can be used to achieve a balanced and personified space.
Natural lighting
If possible, large windows should be chosen in order to take advantage of natural light. Here, tiles also play an important role in monetizing the light that enters the room. If it is not possible to have large windows, focus on indirect and subtle light sources, such as candles, thus providing an environment favourable to rest and even meditation.
Simple decoration
The choice of decorative objects for a Zen environment must be taken care of. They must be smooth elements, with organic lines and neutral or pastel colours. Indoor plants can function as a decorative element, since they combine with this type of environment and give natural, balance and elegance to the space.
ARCH Valadares participated in ISH, from March 14 to 18, the largest world fair for sanitary ceramics, construction and renewable energy technologies.
Held in Frankfurt, Germany, the participating companies presented their latest ecological bets on innovation and development.
ARCH Rimless System
On the way to a more sustainable future, ARCH Valadares presented at the event the new Rimless solution – drainage / cleaning system of the basins (characterized by the elimination of the rim / drainage channel of the basins), similar to those already on the market but with a level of performance that allows 100% cleaning of the surface.
The Rimless system has the unique advantage of allowing full access to the water flow zone inside the basin, ensuring the most complete cleaning and hygiene of the sanitary appliance. This solution, required by the market in recent years, represents a challenge in terms of managing the flow of water inside the basin, which normally does not ensure complete cleaning and tends to cause water projection towards the outside of the bowl.
In fact, it is common to see that Rimless systems either do not meet the splash test requirement or, if they do, they do not completely clean the internal surface. It is common to see advertising designations such as “we ensure 95% of the area is clean”.
Thus, the challenge corresponded to the design of a solution that would guarantee thorough cleaning and elimination of splashes through the creation of a complete ceramic bowl, a material that ARCH has mastered as only a handful have done before and that ensures maximum resistance and durability.
Thus, ARCH, taking advantage of its long experience in the design of toilets, implemented a solution apparently the same as others that already exist, but which in detail presents three fundamental differences:
– 100% cleaning, fully complying with the European standard;
– Total absence of splashes;
– Total absence of splashes;
Highflush System
The Highflush lushing system was also presented, an innovative solution that is distinguished by better performance, new installation possibilities and greater convenience.
The Highflush flushing system, consisting of a control unit, a solenoid valve and a supply unit, was developed with the purpose of, with a single solution, being able to cover various types of sanitary facilities, such as overhead toilets, BTW, public facilities or people with reduced mobility.
The control unit is part of the control board and controls the opening time of the solenoid valve. The activation is done by touch or by approximation (depending on the selected parameterization) of a finger in the central part of the control board. If the touch or the touch of the finger is instantaneous, we will have a short-term discharge. If the touch or approach time is prolonged (about 3 seconds), we will have a greater discharge.
System features:
– Control board cleaning mode. This feature allows you to disable the system for cleaning;
– Whole discharge (4L) and half discharge (2L); –
Parameterization of the discharge time according to the supply conditions of the water supply network;
- – Possibility to parameterize the approach distance for activation;
- – Dispenses tank / water reservoir, reducing noise of use;
- – Estimated consumption savings of 15%.
It is in the irregular lines of nature that we find the distinctive feature of perfection. Natural elements such as stone, wood or shells, have an intrinsic energy and a living beauty that we do not find in manufactured objects. The organic uniqueness of its shapes and textures, contribute to define the identity of the spaces, establishing a silent dialogue with nature. Best of all, they don’t have a price tag. They are a gift from nature.
Carved to measure for each project, or as found in its natural state, these materials are always an inspiring presence and a prominent element in any room. From a simple decorative design, to larger pieces, they are a stimulus for our senses and, at the same time, provide a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere.
There is no fuss in finding them. A nice walk through the countryside, or next to the beach, can materialize that wooden bench that you are looking for in the living room, or that stone waterfall, that you designed for the bathroom.
Under a closer look, these hidden “treasures” are revealed. But we have to collect them carefully, respect for nature being the most important of them all.

Life in its most intimate expression..
Tiles in geometric shapes and patterns combine tradition and modernity.
A striking element of Portuguese culture, the tile gains prominence in the interior and exterior of the house, applied to the walls or the floor, as a total covering or as a detail. On the patio, in the kitchen, in the bathroom or in any room, the tiles give a very special touch to the spaces.
In addition to the diversity of options, applicable to all styles, tiles are also a coating solution that has great advantages, particularly with regard to maintenance.
This is one of the great trends in architecture and interior decoration for 2017. The tiles with geometric shapes and / or patterns, can be smooth or in relief, in a single shade, in classic black & white or very colourful, combining well with others.
The choice depends on the style of each space. Regardless of the option, the tile is a winning bet.
The taps are prominent elements in a bathroom.
With modern or classic design, with author’s signature, in different materials and finishes, there are currently taps for all styles, tastes and prices.
After choosing the ideal faucets, you must ensure that they remain perfect for a long time. For that, it is advisable to take some care..
Faucets, used daily, accumulate more dirt than basins or washbasins. Cleanliness is essential, but there are rules. Not all products or techniques can be used either in faucets, in toilets or vitreous china. Some can even cause irreversible damage.
Here are some basic tips for cleaning taps.
1.A method for each type of finish
First of all, it is important to determine the type of finish of the faucet. Different finishes require individual cleaning, if the basic one does not work. Products or techniques especially suitable for a chrome tap may not be effective on a piece of made up of other finishes.
2. DIY cleaning mixture
All corrosive cleaning products and even bleach must be avoided.
The best is still the traditional soap and water.
You can prepare a simple mixture at home: Add 2 glasses of warm water (0.47 l) with 1 to 2 tablespoons (15 to 30 ml) of detergent in a small container.
Dip a sponge or cloth in the mixture and carefully rub the entire tap area.
3.Brush method
A toothbrush, for example a toothbrush, can be a perfect tool for cleaning more difficult areas, particularly soiled ones due to the deposit of minerals.
Cover the brush bristles with baking soda and rub. Adding some water can help.
4.Rinse
After removing all the dirt, wash the tap with cold, clean water.
5.Set and finish
Finally, use a microfiber cloth to dry and shine. Et voilá! Perfectly clean taps. The tips presented can be used in most faucets, bathroom or kitchen. However, in some cases, it may be necessary to resort to specialized techniques and products.
When buying faucets for your home, inquire about the various solutions available on the market, in order to choose the most suitable for your needs (design, performance and ask the manufacturer / distributor for cleaning instructions.
